Fequently Asked Questions

The death of a loved one can be a confusing time, below we cover some of the most frequently asked questions.

Absolutely, there are strict laws that need to be followed. Each deceased is given an identity card and unique identification number which is checked before the cremation takes place to make sure it corresponds with the coffin plate. After the cremation has taken place the cremated remains are left to cool. After this the crematorium staff remove all the cremated remains that remain and place them in to a collection pan where they then place them in a cremulator to produce the fine cremated remains you receive. At this point any metal objects are removed and recycled (any money received is donated to charity). They are then placed into plastic containers and labelled appropriately ready for the funeral director to collect. After each cremation each cremator is cleaned thoroughly.

Yes, but there are a couple of rules that need to be followed:

  1. Cremated remains must be kept in your hand luggage.
  2. Have an accompanying Cremation Certificate – we will give you this upon collection of the cremated remains.

At this point we believe it is best to keep the cremated remains in what we get them back in from the crematorium (plastic screw top jar like container), this is incase airport security need to physically check or scan them.

This is dependent on a variety of situations, from the Coroner being involved to when the crematorium has a date and time available that suits you. Under normal circumstances we believe that a week is long enough time to wait until the funeral day due to the amount of organizing that needs to take place and to make sure you are not running around at a million miles an hour. Dates and times to some are is a very important aspect and we appreciate this, so we will never dictate dates and times to you and will always give you all the options available and to decide the best outcome.

One of our limousine’s will comfortably seat six people in the back and one person in the front next to our driver. We do say it is better that anyone who is unsteady on their feet or needs the use of a wheelchair to sit in the front as this facilitates easier access.

Simply put NO! Every coffin we use is cremated as you see it, no handles are taken off, the name plates remain on and we certainly do not remove any deceased prior to the cremation.

Yes, there are strict law’s that are needed to be abided by. Each coffin has a name plate on which is checked by the crematorium staff and then placed into the cremator. These cremators can only hold one coffin at a time. Most crematoriums have around 3 cremators, these are run continuously all the working day allowing more than one cremation to take place at a time.

To an extent yes. As a family funeral service, we have decided not to charge for our services for anyone under the age of 18 years. Cremations are usually carried out free of charge, however burials are not if the family don’t already own a grave. Any doctors involved will not usually ask for a fee and most ministers will not ask for a fee either (this is up to their discretion). Fees will apply to special coffins, horse and carriages, flowers, catering and news paper notices. We would advise anyone in a situation like this to contact us to discuss everything in detail.

*There are funeral grants via the government that are available to help with any costs occurred.

We understand that a funeral can be expensive and can be sometimes completely unexpected. Please speak to us if you have a financial problem. We do offer a ‘basic’ funeral which brings the cost down by a significant amount. If this is still an issue, please don’t feel embarrassed to talk to us as we can at the very least give you advice on grants and charities that might be able to help.

At the funeral arrangement we will run through everything in detail from start to finish, making sure you achieve what you want for your loved one, family member or friend. Of course we will be advising you on our recommendations throughout. We make it very clear that we do not expect you to know every little detail straight away and we encourage that you go home and have a think about things before making a final decision. We have one chance of giving your loved one, family member or friend the ceremony they deserve, and it must be perfect. We will give you advice on registering, paperwork, Coroners (if they are involved) and dates and times. You will go home with a pack from us that will contain notes of anything left unanswered. information we feel you need to know and important contacts. We hope by the time we have finished that you feel a lot more at ease with the situation and understand that we will do as much as we physically can for you at such a difficult time.

As a small family funeral service, we believe it is very important to be upfront, honest and transparent with all costings. An exact balance will be given to you after discussing the funeral arrangements. We do have to ask all our families for a deposit of £1,500.00, which then pays some of the third-party costs. We do not expect for this to be paid at the initial meeting but as soon as possible before the funeral. A few days after the funeral day, an invoice will be sent out via post with the final balance enclosed and at this point we request that the balance is cleared within 30 days of receiving it. However, we do appreciate some people will be relying on insurance policies, banks, solicitors and grants, we ask you be honest and keep us informed.

This is dependent on where the person has passed. If they have passed away in hospital, there will be a length of time where they must remain in the hospital’s care whilst paperwork is completed. We do promise that as soon as the paperwork has been completed, that we will be there as soon as possible to bring them into our care. If they have passed away at home and there are no complications, then they will come into our care immediately.

*If there is a Coroner involved there will be a further time delay to this whilst further investigations take place.
